Teachers, remind your students that videos cannot be approved if the student is making signs in the selfie, making a silly face (tongue out, squishing face together, etc.), or if the student(s) in the video are fooling around or making a joke of the assignment. Also, during Week 3, I was unable to approve SEVERAL videos due to spoilers. Remind your students to read the prompt on the Flipgrid, keep responses on topic, and if your class has read ahead, make extra efforts not to spoil the book for anyone else. I was able to approve maybe 15% of the videos submitted in Week 3. Half were unable to be approved due to inappropriate selfies or behavior during the video. The other half were great but contained information that would spoil what's yet to come in the book for many.
As though their journeys weren't already challenging enough, each character is faced with a personal dilemma in this section. Identify the main challenge each character faced during this week's reading along with the decision made. Do you think you would have reacted similarly if you were in his/her situation or do you think you would have reacted differently? You can view and use this organizer to plan your response. To create a copy of the organizer so you can edit it or save it to your Drive account, click here. CLICK HERE to respond to the prompt via Flipgrid. The Flipgrid password is Refugee18. You can also respond as a class or individual in the comments below. If you can, share where you are located at the beginning of your Flipgrid or written response. We'd love to know where everyone is connecting from!
